Step back in time – Nantwich with its Medieval street patterns and half-timbered buildings dates back to Roman times and has its origins in the salt industry. Nantwich has a diverse history from canals to railways. Today it’s a lively market town with a whole array of events.
England’s Wall City – established in 79 AD by the Romans as the settlement of Deva. It is the only city in this country to have in its entirety the Roman and Medieval walls.
There are many local churches of historical interest.
Also churches and places of worship of all denominations in easy reach.

Besides Haughton’s own specialist farm butcher Chestnut Meats (www.chestnutmeats.co.uk), the nearest shops are in Bunbury (nearest village) they include a co-op with post office usually open 7.00 am till 9:00 pm. In addition to the co-op (there is a cash point in the Co-op) there is a butchers and coffee shop.
There are more shops in Tarporley including bakers, antique shops, clothes shops, DIY, electrical goods and a pharmacy. Nantwich is a well served market town (market days Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) with a Sainsburys, Morrisons and Aldi supermarkets and of course our superb monthly farmers market (last Saturday in the month).
The nearest banks are in Nantwich or Tarporley.
Recommending a place to eat is difficult, people look for different styles and also the depth of pockets vary however in the immediate area both walking and driving the choice is wide varied and of very good standards.
Our favourite is to just stroll the 200m to our local 17 Century Nags Head Pub (Ribble Valley Inns) and ask for the Chef’s own menu.
